OUR STORY: MARIO BADESCU SALON & SPA

IT started in 1967, with Mario Badescu mixing products and giving facials in his one room studio in New York City.

Launching his practice out of a two-room apartment in Midtown Manhattan seeing clients by referral only. Inside his humble, modern apartment – Badescu housed all the ingredients almost any skin type likely needs, including organically grown cucumbers, strawberries, cantaloupe, banana, and lemons. Feeding the skin with the vitamins in bananas and carrots, hormones in honey and the cleansing qualities of cucumber, each vegetable and fruit has a benefit.

ABOUT MARIO BADESCU

A Romanian native, Mario Badescu a chemist and pharmacist who had his own skin laboratory in Vienna before he moved to New York City in 1966. He understood the uniqueness of skin and strongly believed in the importance of a skin analysis and knowing what type of skin each client has before treating the skin. Finding an untapped synergy between beauty and skin care, Badescu was committed to helping clients realize and value their inner beauty rather than cosmetic. His facial treatments and formulas he created featured a blend of organic fruits and vegetables to feed, nourish and revitalize the skin. Offering by appointment only facials out of his NYC apartment and developing a line of handmade products to suit client’s individual skin types and needs.

For over 40 years, Mario Badescu has been relied upon as a source for quality skin care. Today our products and services are one of New York’s best kept secrets. Our valued clientele includes models and actors as well as everyday men and women who understand the importance of good skin care. 

The brand’s enduring success and loyal following are the result of the late Mario Badescu’s timeless philosophy that skin care should be simple, gentle and effective. With an abundance of skincare options available, there can be a lot of confusion around the purpose of the products, their ingredients and the way to apply them. Regardless of their names, what matters in skincare products is what they are designed to do and what they contain. You are probably familiar with face toners and facial sprays (also known as face mists). But do you know they are two products that can take your skincare routine to the next level?

Are toners and facial sprays different?

Some of you may be wondering if these two products are different and whether you need them both. And the answer is yes.

Toners and face mists are different! Toners (also known as “cleansing lotions” in our line) are formulated to re-balance skin after you’ve washed your face while adding a weightless layer of complexion-boosting benefits to your skin. What is a toner and how to use it?

Toners have a water-like consistency and are usually applied gently with a cotton pad after cleansing the face. Years ago, traditional toners used to be drying and quite harsh on the skin but this remains in the past. Nowadays, toners are packed with skin-loving ingredients and provide a variety of benefits:

1. Remove traces of impurities. It is really important to wash your face with a gentle cleanser and take off all the makeup, bacteria and pollution, built up throughout the day. Sometimes impurities can be a bit stubborn and toners come to the rescue to provide additional cleansing.
2. Balance the pH of the skin. Often an irritation might occur or the new products you are trying could be a bit too harsh on your skin. The right toner will calm the skin and balance its pH level after cleansing. As a result, the rest of your skincare products absorb and perform better, as well.

What is a facial spray?

“What’s the difference between the two Facial Sprays?”

There are a few differences; our goal was to formulate a facial mist that would complement the OG rosewater facial spray.

Both boost hydration. Both also feature Aloe Vera for its soothing properties—but these are the main differences:
